Visit to St Joseph's by Fr Paul Nazotin

Summer 2000

Fr Paul Nazotin stayed at Saint Joseph's parish for 5 weeks during August and September 2000 acting as a locum for parish priest Fr Luiz Ruscillo who was away on vacation.

Ironically Fr Paul had come to the UK during his own summer vacation in order to improve his english.

Despite english being his second language, Fr Paul made a great success of his stay, and will certainly have left with many happy memories and new friends.

A priest in Burkina Faso in West Africa, after studying Philosophy and Theology before being ordained, Fr Paul is now in the second year of four studying Scripture at the Biblicum Institut in Rome.

Parishioners of St Joseph's and St Robert's held a surprise supper for Fr Paul the night before his departure. Most of the food was of a fairly traditional british buffet, however a sister from the convent made a hot african nut dish to give our pallets a surprise!

Traditionally, in pre-industrial western countries, priests were among the most, if not the most, educated people in a parish. They played an essential role in ensuring that Christian faith and teaching was passed on. Therefore by continuing his education, Fr Paul is assimilating ancient tools of the Faith that he can pass on to those in his country.

Fr Paul is based in the diocese of Fada Ngourma in the east of Burkina Faso and the following maps give an impression of it's location. and of it's size compared with our own diocese of Lancaster.
