Care of Church Buildings & Grounds

Church Cleaning

A lovingly kept Church or Chapel helps us value God's house and encourages respect and devotion to God. It helps us maintain the dignity of our masses and also gives a welcoming impression to visitors. \par We enter our church with its gleaming woodwork, giving little or no thought to the effort and love which keeps the place looking so nice and beautiful. \par Cleaning of the nave and chancel includes weekly dusting and careful polishing with brasses on the altar getting a polish roughly once a month. Vacuum cleaning is done about once a month. Cleaning is not just for ladies - men are always required to help with tasks which require climbing ladders, moving heavy objects or scrubbing pigeon guano away from the church door!

Church Gardens

Just as we try to keep clean and beautiful the interior of our church, the gardens around it too should be as beautiful and tidy as possible. Some parishioners have already adopted certain areas for which to be responsible and any other offers of help, either regular or occasional, will be appreciated.

Church Flowers

The core group of church flower arrangers take it in turns for a few weeks at a time, with help from others at major feasts like Christmas and Easter. The work takes normally about two hours to do the arranging once a week and watering takes a few minutes once or twice a week depending on the weather. There is more to do in summer than in winter. Flowers are bought with parish funds and donations of cash (or flowers) usually on Friday morning and the arranging is normally done on Friday afternoon.

For occasions like weddings, special requirements can be catered for. For instance pew ends, lectern, centrepiece, pedestals or baskets.
